Jiae came into my life almost two decades ago, when we met at art school. She's a rare and magical being who has achieved mastery of the visual arts through her work as a painter, draftswoman, video artist, and writer. She's also a proficient maker of a hot cup of tea, and somehow has the psychic gift of knowing exactly when you need said beverage.
Jiae designed my the cover for my first ever release. We cut out the covers together and hand made the cds. This DIY release, on my new at the time imprint, Circuitree Records, led to me being named Electronic Musician of the Year by The Miami New Times in 2007.
We've collaborated on video art and music, and were even in a band for which Jiae handled live video projections. Our first gig together, along with Nicholas Raftis, was a surround sound show in the basement of an art museum. It was pretty exciting until the main computer crashed, but we had fun and forged ahead.
Jiae's been a friend to me in ways that I can never thank her for, and so this one is dedicated to her. I hope she has some sense of just how much I adore her.
She's also a mother of 2 with her wonderful husband, and now spends much of her time illustrating children's books.
