  • Included with your purchase of the Flutes album is a handcrafted chakapa, made to order and each one unique. Adornments include feather(s), crystals, hemp rope and suede ties. The leaves are locally sourced bamboo. This size is ideal for regular use and ceremonial work, being of significant substance and size without excess bulk, and provides a visceral impact when using on the body. I layer the larger leaves on the bottom to cut down on the width and to get a longer, fuller chakapa.

Each chakapa is unique and crafted with love. I tap into the morphogenic field to intuit what energies are needed for the person placing the order. Each can function in ceremonial space for clearing energy, and as a musical accompaniment that soothes and relaxes. These unique chakapas can hang on your wall to enliven your ceremonial space, yurt, teepee.

My process for harvesting the leaves is intentional and includes a tobacco offering and prayer to the spirit of Bamboo, honoring it for it's sacrifice, so that we may use these chakapas to help others and hold space for healing with sound. Once harvested, the leaves are cleaned and blessed with sacred tobacco. Ancient Icaros are sung to the plants throughout the process.

The chakapa has a rich history:

Chakapa - Shakapa - Wind of the jungle is a kind of palm frond made from the leaves of various local plants. It is used by Shamans in the Amazon basin as a rhythm and healing instrument during Ayahuasca ceremonies. The sound of leaves calms the participants and purifies the energy in the room.

In a healing the Huairasacha – Chacapa is rubbed and rattled over or near the patient’s body while singing an icaro (medicine song). This cleanses, refreshes and harmonises the energy field. The shamans have a wide range of movements which produce different sounds and energies.

  • This is a gorgeous bansuri, handcrafted with precision by master flute maker Geoffrey Ellis. It's got an incredible finish, and I would say it's one of the most gorgeous flutes I've ever seen. The lip plate is helpful for placement and embouchure. The key is E tonic A in the upper register. This flute is small enough for players with smaller hands, like myself. I'm including a download of the album "Spells" with this release as well as "Flutes."

Geoffrey Ellis has been a respected maker of world flutes since 1997. He lives in the redwood forest in Northern California, taking advantage of the quiet and solitude to give his full attention to his craft. His ongoing collaborations with top flautists and gifted fellow makers has resulted in an exquisite portfolio of world flutes that are played by amateur and professional musicians around the globe.

In addition to crafting precision musical instruments, there is a beautiful aesthetic to Geoffrey’s flutes that players have come to recognize, and the widespread appeal of these flutes for both casual enthusiasts and professional performers is undeniable. When you order a flute from Geoffrey Ellis, expect to receive a high-quality, stable, and reliable instrument that will last a lifetime.
